"Into You" is the second painting in the Visual Rituals series.
The title "Into You" refers to a journey inward. Rather than searching for meaning in distant places, beliefs, or external worlds, the work suggests a movement toward the depths of one's own consciousness. It is an exploration of the inner landscape where memory, intuition, imagination, and identity intersect.
Inspired by prehistoric cave art, petroglyphs, ritual symbolism, and altered states of perception, the painting presents a symbolic map of transformation. Two archetypal figures of kokopelli stand on either side of a luminous central axis that rises from an intricate network of roots deep beneath the earth.
The composition draws inspiration from archetypal cosmologies found across many cultures. The glowing root system represents origins, ancestry, memory, and the hidden foundations of life. From this underground network emerges a radiant vertical pathway connecting earth and sky, matter and spirit, the visible and the unseen.
Throughout the composition, symbolic animals, celestial forms, ladders, spirals, eyes, and human figures appear as markers along an inner journey. Rather than illustrating a specific mythology, these symbols draw from recurring visual languages that have accompanied humanity throughout its history, from prehistoric cave paintings and petroglyphs to ritual and visionary traditions around the world.
Created with layered mark-making, fluorescent pigments, and light-reactive materials, the painting transforms under ultraviolet light, revealing hidden dimensions and intensifying the contrast between darkness and illumination.
"Into You" continues the Visual Rituals series' exploration of consciousness, ritual, memory, and humanity's enduring relationship with the living world. It suggests that the deepest discoveries may not be found by traveling farther outward, but by traveling deeper inward.
