"You Again" is the 1st painting in the Visual Rituals series out of 9 pieces.
The title "You Again" points toward a simple yet profound realization: wherever one turns, there is the same presence looking back. Through nature, through other beings, through symbols and experience, consciousness continually encounters itself. The work explores this endless cycle of recognition and remembrance.
Inspired by prehistoric cave art, petroglyphs, ritual symbolism, and altered states of perception, the painting presents a symbolic landscape inhabited by archetypal figures, animals, and forces that have appeared throughout human history. Ancient visual languages merge with contemporary expression, creating a bridge between past and present.
The composition draws inspiration from archetypal cosmologies found across many cultures. The upper realm is represented by the bird, a symbol associated with the sky, spirit, vision, and transcendence. The central realm belongs to human beings, standing between worlds as witnesses and participants in the experience of life. Below them lies the earthly and subterranean domain, a realm of roots, serpents, insects, transformation, and the hidden forces that sustain existence beneath the visible surface.
A serpent rises through the center of the composition, connecting these realms and serving as a living pathway between earth, humanity, and sky. Rather than depicting a specific mythology, the painting draws from recurring symbolic patterns that have appeared throughout human history, from prehistoric cave art and petroglyphs to ritual and visionary traditions around the world.
Created with layered mark-making, prehistoric-inspired symbolism, and light-reactive materials, the painting transforms under different lighting conditions, revealing hidden visual dimensions beyond its appearance in ordinary light.
"You Again" marks the beginning of an ongoing exploration into ritual, memory, consciousness, and the enduring visual vocabulary of humanity's prehistoric heritage.
